Behind the photos

Every image in this gallery was taken on our tours around Merzouga and on longer routes across Morocco. They show the real vehicles, camps and landscapes you will see, not stock photos. Use the filters to browse by activity, and click any tour title to see its itinerary.

Tips for great desert photos

  • Shoot early or late. The hour after sunrise and before sunset gives long shadows and warm colour on the dunes. Midday light is flat.
  • Protect your gear. Fine sand gets everywhere. Keep cameras in a sealed bag and change lenses inside the vehicle.
  • Use people for scale. A rider on a ridge shows how big the dunes really are.
  • Ask before photographing people. Nomad families are welcoming, but always ask first.

Our guides know the best viewpoints and will stop for photos whenever you ask. The sunset tour and sunrise tour are timed for the best light, and a night in a desert camp is the only way to photograph the Milky Way over the dunes.
