Detailed Itinerary
Late Afternoon Departure
Your guide picks you up about two and a half hours before sunset, as the heat of the day starts to fade. At our base you choose quad, buggy or 4x4, get fitted with helmet and goggles and go through the safety briefing.
Leaving in the late afternoon means the light is already turning golden as you set off, and the sand is cooler and more comfortable than at midday.
Dune Adventure
The route heads into Erg Chebbi as the shadows begin to lengthen. You climb and descend a series of dunes, stop at a nomad settlement to see how families live at the edge of the sand, and keep moving toward one of the tallest dunes in the area.
The guide times the ride so you reach the viewpoint with plenty of light left, giving you time to park, climb the last few metres on foot and settle in.
Sunset Spectacle
From the top of the dune you watch the sun drop toward the horizon. The sand turns from gold to deep orange and then to purple, and the ridges below become sharp lines of light and shadow. It is the best time of day for photos, and your guide will take pictures of you on the crest.
As the light fades, you ride back to base along gentle slopes, arriving in the soft blue twilight. If you booked the optional camel ride, you return on a camel instead. Your guide then drives you back to your hotel.

Equipment Information & Vehicle Details
The ride ends after dark, so every quad and buggy has working headlights and rear reflectors, tested by our mechanics before each departure. Guides wear headlamps for the walk up to the summit viewpoint. On top of the standard helmet and goggles we add a light jacket, as the temperature falls quickly after sunset. Safety Information
You ride out in full daylight, which lets the group learn the route and terrain before dusk. Only the short final stretch back to camp happens in fading light, and an experienced lead rider who knows this dune field by heart guides it closely.
