The Full Day Quad, Buggy & 4x4 Desert Tour Around Merzouga is our most complete day trip in the desert. It leaves the usual tourist routes behind and heads deep into the Erg Chebbi region. Across the day you drive over high dunes, call on several nomadic families and walk around old fossil beds. There are oases off the main tracks, abandoned kasbahs to look around and a traditional Berber lunch in the desert. By evening you will have seen the landscape, the people and a good slice of the history of the Moroccan Sahara.

Detailed Itinerary
Morning: Dunes & Nomads
After breakfast at your hotel, your guide picks you up and you start with the safety briefing and gear fitting at our base. The first part of the day is spent in the dunes of Erg Chebbi while the air is still cool: long climbs, ridge runs and views across the whole sand sea.
You visit nomad families living around the dunes. Over tea, your guide explains how they find water, move their herds and adapt their tents to wind and heat, and you get a real sense of life at the edge of the Sahara.
Midday: Fossils & Oases
The route leaves the sand for the rocky plain around the dunes. You stop at fossil beds where ammonites and orthoceras lie in the stone, then continue to a small oasis where palm trees and gardens grow around a source of water.
Your guide shows you a khettara, one of the old underground channels that carried water across the desert to the fields. You can look down the access shafts and see how this clever system kept villages alive for centuries.
Lunch: Berber Feast
Lunch is served in the shade, usually a vegetable or chicken tagine cooked slowly over a fire, with fresh bread, salad and fruit, followed by mint tea. It is a proper break in the middle of the day, with time to rest before the afternoon.
In the hottest months we make this break longer, so the second half of the ride happens when temperatures start to drop.
Afternoon: Kasbahs & Return
In the afternoon you explore an abandoned kasbah, its thick earth walls and towers slowly returning to the desert. Your guide explains how these fortified houses protected families, grain and animals.
The final stretch crosses the outer dunes back toward Merzouga, with time for last photos in the warm afternoon light. You arrive back at base by late afternoon, and your guide drives you to your hotel.

Equipment Information & Vehicle Details
On a full day out, the support 4x4 carries extra fuel canisters, spare tyres and a more complete tool kit, on top of the usual helmets, goggles and harnessed buggies. Lunch is a proper Berber meal, not a bag of snacks. Riders can swap between quad, buggy and the 4x4 passenger seat during the day, and we refit the gear at each swap so it stays comfortable. Safety Information
With this much ground to cover, we stop for shaded rest breaks with water and tea every couple of hours. Anyone showing signs of fatigue or sunburn moves into the air-conditioned 4x4 for a while.
