Tour Overview
The 4 Day Sahara Discovery spends four days in the Moroccan Sahara. It brings together all our desert activities (quad biking, buggy tours, 4x4 trips, camel trekking and sandboarding) with visits to local people, a look at the region's geology and three nights at desert camps. You meet nomadic families, explore fossil beds and visit oases tucked away in the desert. You also see the Sahara at sunrise, at sunset and under a sky full of stars.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Quad
Your guide welcomes you in Merzouga and takes you to your hotel to settle in. In the afternoon, once the heat begins to fade, you head to our base at the edge of Erg Chebbi for a safety briefing and your first quad ride. The guide starts on flat sand so you can find your feet, then leads you up into the dunes.
The ride is timed so you reach a high viewpoint as the light turns golden, giving you a first real look at the sand sea that you will explore over the coming days. You return to your hotel in the soft evening light for dinner and a good night's rest.
Day 2: Buggy & Nomads
After breakfast you set off in a buggy, adjusting the seat and harness and following the guide's tracks deeper into Erg Chebbi. The route climbs steadily to the higher dunes on the far side of the erg, where there are fewer vehicles and the views stretch across the whole dune field.
Later in the day you visit nomad families who live on the hamada, the stony plain around the dunes. Over mint tea, with your guide translating, you hear how they move their goats and camels between grazing areas, find water and adapt their tents to wind and heat. It is an informal, respectful visit, and a good chance to understand desert life beyond the dunes.
Day 3: 4x4 & Fossils
Today is spent in the comfort of a 4x4. You drive out across the hamada to fossil beds where the rock is full of ammonites and orthoceras, the remains of an ocean that covered this region hundreds of millions of years ago. Your guide shows you how to recognise each one, and you may visit a workshop where fossil stone is cut and polished.
The afternoon loop passes Khamlia, home to Gnawa musicians, and small oases with palm gardens and old underground water channels. In the late afternoon you reach a desert camp in the dunes, where dinner is served under the stars and the evening ends quietly around the fire.
Day 4: Sunrise & Departure
Get up before dawn and climb a dune near camp to watch the sunrise. The horizon turns pink and orange, then the first rays light the crests of Erg Chebbi. It is a calm, memorable way to finish the trip, and a warm layer is useful as the early morning air can be cold.
After breakfast at camp, your guide drives you back to Merzouga, where you can shower and collect your luggage. From there you continue your journey, whether by road toward the Dades Valley and Marrakech, north toward Fes, or by bus or plane from Errachidia. Your guide is happy to help with the onward plan and can suggest good stops on the way, such as the Todra Gorge near Tinghir.

Equipment Information & Vehicle Details
Over four days you use every vehicle type we offer, plus sandboards and camel-trek equipment for the sunset and sunrise treks. All three nights come with full camp bedding and blankets. Each of the three desert camps has a first-aid kit, torches and reserve water, and our mechanics check every vehicle each morning before the day's activity. Learn more about our fleet.
Safety Information
Three nights in a row outdoors adds up, so we put the more demanding activities (quad, buggy, sandboarding) on separate days and leave time to rest. Camp staff are on site every night. Bring warm layers even in the shoulder seasons. Each morning the guides run a short safety refresher for that day's activity. Read our full safety standards.
