Tour Overview
The 2 Day Merzouga Adventure fits most of what Merzouga offers into a weekend. You ride quads through the dunes, take a 4x4 desert tour and trek by camel at sunset. The night is spent at a desert camp under the stars, and in the morning you wake for sunrise over Erg Chebbi. It suits travellers who want to try the full range of Sahara activities but do not have time for a longer expedition.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Adventure Day
Your guide meets you at your hotel in Merzouga in the late morning and drives you to our base at the edge of Erg Chebbi. After a safety briefing and a few practice laps on flat sand, you set off on a quad ride into the first ridges of the dunes, learning to keep steady speed on the climbs and to slow down before each crest. Lunch follows in the shade, with time to rest through the hottest part of the day.
In the afternoon you join the 4x4 for a tour around the dunes, with stops at a nomad family's tent for mint tea, the fossil-rich stony plain and the village of Khamlia. Toward sunset you swap engines for camels and ride slowly into the dunes to a desert camp. Dinner is served under the stars, often followed by drumming around the fire.
Day 2: Sunrise & Return
Your camel guide wakes you before dawn so you can climb a nearby dune and watch the sun rise over the Sahara. The sand changes colour minute by minute, from grey to pink to gold, and the camp below slowly comes to life. It is a quiet, unhurried moment and many guests say it is the highlight of the trip.
Back at camp, breakfast is ready: bread, eggs, olives, honey, jam and hot drinks. You then ride the camels back through the dunes to the edge of Merzouga, where you can take a shower and collect your luggage. Your guide drops you at your hotel or wherever you are continuing your journey, with all meals covered from the first lunch to the final breakfast.

Equipment Information & Vehicle Details
As well as the quad, buggy and 4x4 gear from our day tours, this overnight trip includes a proper bed at the desert camp, with blankets and linens, because Sahara nights can turn cold even after a hot day. We provide saddles and blankets for the sunset camel ride to camp. Each camp keeps a stocked first-aid kit and torches for the night. Learn more about our fleet.
Safety Information
Camp staff stay on site overnight for security and to help with anything you need. Once the generator winds down there is no artificial light, so we hand out torches. Pack warm layers for the evening and the hours before dawn, even in summer. Experienced handlers lead the camel trek to and from camp at a gentle, steady pace. Read our full safety standards.
