Tour Overview
The 4x4 Nomad Experience is about nomadic life in the Moroccan Sahara and the people who have lived in this desert for generations. Rather than a standard sightseeing trip, it centres on time with families. You visit several of them in their tents, share traditional meals and hear about their customs and how they survive in the desert. This way of life is disappearing quickly, and the visits are built on respect and a fair exchange between guests and hosts.

Detailed Itinerary
Morning: First Camp
After hotel pick-up, your driver-guide takes you out onto the hamada, the stony plain around the dunes, to visit a nomad family in their tent. You are welcomed with mint tea and sit together while the family talks about daily life: looking after goats and camels, finding water and moving camp with the seasons.
This is an informal, respectful visit. Your guide translates, so you can ask questions and join in small tasks if the family invites you.
Midday: Second Camp
You then drive to a second camp in a different area, where you share a simple meal with the family. Often this includes bread baked in the hot sand, a dish many guests remember long after the trip.
Your guide explains desert survival skills, from reading the weather to finding the way across the plain, and how these families keep their traditions while the modern world arrives around them.
Afternoon: Return
In the afternoon there is time for a final conversation, perhaps music or stories, before you say goodbye. On the way back you stop at viewpoints over the dunes for photos.
You return to Merzouga in the late afternoon, with a much deeper understanding of the people who call the desert home.
