Detailed Itinerary
Departure
Your driver-guide picks you up at your hotel in the Merzouga area in a comfortable, air-conditioned 4x4. There is room for up to six passengers, cold water on board and child seats on request.
The route starts on the tracks around the dunes, with the guide explaining the landscape as you go: the shape of the dunes, the dark hamada plain and the villages along the edge of the sand.
Dunes & Nomads
The 4x4 climbs onto the edges of Erg Chebbi and stops at several viewpoints, where you can step out and walk up a dune for wide views. The driver handles the soft sand, so you can simply enjoy the scenery.
You then visit a nomad family for mint tea. Your guide translates, and you can ask about their animals, their tents and how life in the desert has changed. This tour needs no physical effort, which makes it ideal for families and older travellers.
Return
On the way back you stop for photos wherever you like, then return to Merzouga. The tour takes about four hours in total, easy to fit before or after other activities.
Many guests use this half day to see the area before a night in a desert camp.

You travel in an air-conditioned 4x4 with a driver-guide, so the only gear to fit is your seatbelt. Child seats are available on request for younger travellers.
