The Full Day Buggy Adventure in Merzouga is our longest buggy outing. Over eight hours you drive across the Erg Chebbi region: high dunes, oases tucked out of sight, nomad camps and old fossil beds. Partway through, we stop for a traditional Berber lunch in the desert. You get the driving, but also the people, the geology and the food of the area. Book this one if you want to see as much of the region as possible in a single day.

Detailed Itinerary
Morning: Dunes & Nomads
Your guide picks you up after breakfast. At the base you set up your buggy and harness and go through the briefing, then head into the dunes while it is still cool. The morning is spent crossing Erg Chebbi, with long climbs and ridge drives.
You stop with nomad families for tea and learn how they live around the dunes, moving their animals between grazing areas and water points.
Midday: Fossils & Oases
Leaving the sand, you drive across the hamada to fossil beds and then to a small oasis, where palm trees and vegetable gardens grow around a water source.
Your guide shows you a khettara, an underground water channel dug by hand to bring water to the fields, and explains how villages in the desert managed water long before modern pumps.
Lunch: Berber Feast
A traditional lunch is served in the shade: tagine with vegetables or chicken, bread, salad, fruit and mint tea. It is a relaxed break, longer in the summer months when the middle of the day is hottest.
This is a good moment to rest, charge your energy and swap seats if you are sharing a buggy.
Afternoon: Kasbahs & Return
In the afternoon you visit an abandoned kasbah and walk around its earth walls before driving back through the outer dunes. The light becomes warmer and softer as the day goes on, ideal for photos.
You arrive back at base by late afternoon, and your guide drops you at your hotel.

Because you are out all day, our support 4x4 carries spare tyres, extra fuel canisters and a more complete repair kit than on shorter tours. Every buggy has a roll cage and harnesses, and helmets are provided. Partway through, a proper Berber lunch is prepared at a desert camp. Safety Information
We build several shaded rest breaks into the eight hours. If a driver starts to tire, we offer them a turn as a passenger or a seat in the support 4x4, so nobody has to push on through the heat.
