Detailed Itinerary
Briefing & Dunes
After hotel pick-up and a full briefing at our base, you drive into Erg Chebbi. With three hours, the guide takes you to the far side of the dune field, where the dunes are taller and there are fewer vehicles.
You practise climbing with momentum, cresting slowly and descending in a straight line, with frequent stops to enjoy the views and take photos.
Fossils & Nomads
The route then leaves the sand for the stony plain, where your guide shows you fossils set in the rock: ammonites and orthoceras from the ancient sea that once covered this region.
Next, you stop with a nomad family for tea and conversation. Your guide translates as the family explains how they live with their herds, and you have time to rest in the shade before the drive back.
Return
The last stage crosses the outer dunes back toward the base, with a final photo stop on a high ridge. Back at base you take off your gear and have cold drinks.
Your guide then drives you to your hotel in Merzouga.

This longer route runs out to the fossil beds and more remote dune corridors, so our roll-caged buggies carry extra fuel and the support vehicle brings a basic repair kit and spare inner tubes. The route mixes soft dune driving with firmer ground near the fossil beds. The guide slows down where one terrain type gives way to another and warns you about rocky sections in advance.
